Known as Grand Rapids' first professional hockey franchise, the Grand Rapids Rockets started in the Eastern Amateur Hockey League from 1949-1950 before joining the International Hockey League from 1950-1956.  Their home arena was the DeltaPlex Arena until they were re-homed to Huntington, West Virginia, and renamed the Huntington Hornets after the 1955-56 season.
